The legal requirement for fire safety training
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the responsible person must ensure that employees are provided with adequate fire safety training when they start work, and on an ongoing basis when the risks in the premises change.
Training must be repeated periodically and adapted to account for any new or increased risks. Responsible persons must also ensure that a sufficient number of competent persons are nominated to assist with fire evacuation procedures — these are typically fire wardens or fire marshals.
Training delivered by a competent fire safety professional provides a defensible record and helps ensure that staff genuinely understand what to do in the event of a fire — not just that they have attended a session.
